Research

My PhD project concerns the identification and analysis of genes involved in ciliary motility for Drosophila hearing. The insect auditory apparatus contains specialised chordotonal mechanosensory neurons that require motile cilia for acoustic transduction.

Using genetic, molecular and behavioural approaches, I can assess neuron function as I seek to elucidate the underlying genetic network and mechanisms responsible in dynein arm motor assembly. My research has led me to investigate candidate causative genes of primary ciliary dyskinesia in humans.
