Personal profile

  • 2015 – present: PhD in Neuroscience, University of Edinburgh
  • 2014 – 2015: MSc by Research in Integrative Neuroscience (distinction), University of Edinburgh
  • 2011 – 2014: BSc in Molecular Medicine (distinction), Innsbruck Medical University

Research

I am investigating how successful repair of the central nervous system (CNS) can be achieved. My particular interest thereby lies in the role of microglia, which are the resident immune cells of the brain. My PhD project examines if and how microglia can contribute to neuroprotection and recovery following CNS insults.

Calcium signalling in the brain of the larval zebrafish immediately after mechanical injury. This is visualised using the transgene β-actin:GCaMP6f.

For this purpose, I have established a brain injury model in larval zebrafish and am using in vivo imaging, pharmacological approaches, and transcriptomics to study the role of microglia in this context.
